Make Up Artistry has quickly become a highly recognised and applauded skill within the Beauty Industry. Using faces as blank canvases, make up artists use their brushes to express their creativity and inspiration. Laurisha Lamar is a freelance MUA in Perth who offers her professional make up application to women all over the sate. Constantly creating wearable, trending and illuminating looks whilst all the while encouraging her clients to embrace their natural beauty. I caught up with the talented and equally beautiful Laurisha Lamar and asked her a few questions about her business.
What inspired you to become a free lance MUA and set off on your own business venture?
Makeup has always been my passion and hobby from a young age. Finishing high school I was still unsure about what I wanted to do as a career, but I knew I wanted to run my own business. After encountering some issues with my health in 2013, I decided to take the plunge and go for it, life is too short not to do what makes you happy! I’m very lucky that I have had such great support around me and have been very blessed with so many amazing opportunities in such a short space of time. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me, especially once I gain my qualification in Cosmetic Dermal Science next year!
What has been the most fulfilling moment in your career so far?
Fulfilling moment.. I would say working on set of any Photoshoot especially with my cousin, Teagan – designer of ” ‘Blushed’ by Teagan Jacobs” and photographer Shelbi Eastwood. Being involved in the whole creative process from start to finish with such an amazing team gets you so inspired, being on set and seeing everything come together like magic is just such an amazing feeling of accomplishment!
What is the most rewarding thing about being a make artist?
The most rewarding thing about being a MUA is purely just seeing your clients reaction at the end – especially the reactions of the mums and dads that bring their daughters to get their ball makeup done!
What are your favourite products to use on your clients?
Im obsessed with skin products and anything that helps achieve a flawless base! I love MAC strobe cream under foundation for a subtle healthy glow to the skin, Benefit Porefessional as well as Becca’s Champagne Pop and The Balm’s Mary Lou Manizer to highlight!
What words of advice can you give to someone who is thinking of launching their own business within the beauty industry?
Networking! There are groups on Facebook for creatives such as models, photographers and stylists all looking to get more exposure and to build a portfolio. Get your name out there by organising a creative photoshoot – Displaying good images of your work is key! There is definitely more then enough room for all of us in the industry and it’s important that fellow beauty professionals should support one another! 🙂
